Review....................The Portland is one of those rare pubs that still has two seperate bars in the old saloon and lounge style. On one side you have a small and quite intimate bar that has two pool tables, while the larger side has some lovely wood panelling, an open fire and a big sturdy old bar.
Tucked away on this side on the way to the gents is a door that leads through to a small performance area and it is for this that the Portland is most famed. There is a very busy schedule of events every week mixing bands with comedy nights, poetry readings, film showings and just about anything else that you could think of.The pub is even host to regular meetings of the Cambridge Ukulele Club! Check out the website to see what's going on (see below).
Greene King ales are sold ( I.P.A, Old Speckled Hen), there is a larger than usual number of spirits behind the bar and flavoured vodka as well as plenty of lager and bottled beer.
Food is served daily and is mix of pub classics ( all day breakfast, scampi, sausage and mash), sandwiches, baguettes, homemade burgers and pizzas. They also offer a roast dinner on a Sunday
A place for a quiet pint or a quick bite to eat during the day and a busy venue at night makes the Portland a pub of many guises.
